FAQ
How do I book an appointment or consultation?
Please fill out the tattoo request form or send us an email at info@sundogstudios.ca
We will take a look at the application and forward to the artist with the availability and style you are looking for.
Do I need to book a consultation?
Consultations are mainly needed for large scale custom pieces. Flash and smaller type pieces don't often need a consultation. Consultations are free of charge.
Do you do coverups?
Coverups are often achievable if they are small and not very dark. We recommend to attach an image of the cover up to the tattoo request form and we will be able to discuss your options.
What inks do you use?
Our Artists use the brands: Solid, Eternal, Fusion and Dynamic.
All the inks used are 100% Vegan and Gluten Free. The inks used do NOT contain carcinogenic, reprotoxic or mutagenic substances. They are non-toxic and non-hazardous, under the OSHA COMMUNICATION STANDARD.
What is the best way to contact the studio?
Email is
the best way to contact us:
Is my deposit refundable?
We have a policy of non-refundable deposits for all scheduled appointments.
However, with at least one week's notice prior to cancellation, the deposit may be transferred to a future appointment.
Do you send designs in advance?
We do not send designs in advance due to clients potentially taking that design and going elsewhere to get it tattooed.
During the consultation the artist and client will agree upon design, size and placement. It is too difficult to be back and forth over email for design changes. Small changes can be done the day of the tattoo. This keeps the process organic and straight forward between artist and client as well.
How can I prepare for my tattoo?
Please eat a good meal before coming in. Bring plenty of water and some snacks or a lunch to get you through the day. Please do not come in hungover, or with a sunburn.
What if I forget the appointment, or have to cancel last-minute?
Our studio requires one week cancellation notice to change or move your appointment. Last minute cancellation will result in a loss of the deposit. No-shows or day of cancellations will result in a loss of the deposit and a termination of the project. Three or more reschedules results in a loss of the deposit.
These policies are in place to protect the livelihood of the artists. If a client reschedules last minute, it is often hard to find someone to fill the spot last minute, and the design or setup is often already done. The deposit is used to secure the appointment time and compensate the artist's lost time if cancelled on last minute.
What is your aftercare?
At the studio we will provide a waterproof, breathable bandage.
This is to be left on for one week. It will fill up with plasma and look like a fluid filled sack, this is normal. The tattoo will dry out and the plasma will re-absorb into the tattoo.
After one week, please take off the bandage in the shower. Clean with unscented soap and water, and let it air dry.
From there, you can clean the tattoo once or twice a day with unscented soap and water, and apply a light unscented lotion such as Lubriderm or Aveeno for
the next week.
After the second week, the tattoo will have a new layer of skin formed over and you can go about most of your regular activities. Please try to avoid direct basking in the sun for the first month with your fresh tattoo. The tattoo will be healing underneath the skin for six weeks and may have a milky kind of look to it.
If a touch up is needed (i.e. some lines or shading fell out during the tattoo healing process), please contact your artist directly with a healed photo. We usually recommend to wait a minimum of six weeks before doing this.
Although allergic reactions and infections are rare, please consult a doctor immediately if you see any of the following signs:
Noticeable signs of infection are red skin, pain, and oozing. Please put Polysporin on immediately and consult with a doctor for some antibiotics.
Noticeable signs of an allergic reaction are bumps, extreme itch, and redness. Please put on an allergy cream and don't itch or pick. Take off the Tagaderm bandage immediately and give the tattoo some time to breathe and clear up.
What not to do.
Please do not soak your tattoo for the first few weeks in a hot tub, lake or bath tub. You can still shower with the Tagaderm bandage.
Please avoid excessive sun exposure for the first 2-6 weeks, as the tattoo is still healing underneath the skin during this time.
Always sunscreen your tattoo to protect the ink :)
Do you tattoo under 18?
Some of the artists at our studio will tattoo 16 or 17 with parental consent. Please contact the studio to discuss the piece further.
